These guidelines are the plain-language version of the "Community rules" in our Terms of Service. If the two ever differ, the Terms apply. They cover everything on Nibl: dishes, photos, recipes, comments, tags, usernames and profiles.
Share real home cooking
- Dish photos should be of food you made yourself. Stock photos, restaurant meals and other people's pictures don't belong in a dish post.
- Rank and rate honestly. Scores are your personal opinion of your own cooking.
- Use one account, as yourself. Don't create accounts to inflate likes, follows or scores.
Be kind
Everyone starts somewhere. Burnt edges and lopsided cakes are welcome here. Give feedback the way you'd want to hear it, and keep comments about the food, not the person.
What's not allowed
- Hate. No slurs or attacks on people because of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age or serious illness.
- Harassment and bullying. No threats, insults, pile-ons, or telling anyone to harm themselves.
- Sexual content. No nudity or sexually explicit content. Anything that sexualizes a minor is banned outright and reported to the authorities (see our Child Safety Standards).
- Violence and danger. No graphic violence, self-harm, animal cruelty, or encouraging dangerous activities.
- Illegal activity. No selling or promoting illegal drugs or other illegal goods or services.
- Spam and scams. No ads we haven't agreed to, repetitive posts, misleading links, or schemes to get people's money or information.
- Impersonation and privacy. Don't pretend to be another person or organization, and don't share anyone's private information (like their address or phone number) without their consent.
Be honest about food safety
- List every ingredient, and call out common allergens (nuts, dairy, gluten, shellfish and so on) where you can.
- Don't share recipes or tips that are unsafe, such as undercooking that could make people ill, or present a recipe as a cure or medical treatment.
- Times, nutrition and dietary tags should be your best honest estimate.
Even so, always read a recipe's ingredients yourself before you cook. See Food safety and allergens in our Terms.
Credit recipes and respect copyright
- If a recipe isn't your own, say where it came from.
- When you import a recipe from a website, Nibl keeps a link and credit to the source. Leave that attribution in place.
- Write steps in your own words. Don't copy someone else's write-up, photos or cookbook word for word.
- If you think something on Nibl infringes your copyright, see Copyright complaints.
Reporting and blocking
If something breaks these guidelines, please tell us. We don't tell the person you report who reported them.
- Report a dish, recipe or person: tap the ⋯ menu on it and choose Report.
- Report a comment: press and hold it and choose Report.
- Block someone: tap ⋯ on their profile or dish and choose Block. Neither of you will see the other's dishes, recipes or comments, and follows between you are removed. Unblock any time in Settings → Blocked accounts.
- Remove comments on your dishes: press and hold any comment on your own dish to delete it.
- Go private: turn on Private account in Settings so only followers you approve see your dishes and recipes.
- You can also email support@niblapp.com.
If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
What happens if you break the rules
Nibl has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behavior. We review reports and act on them within 24 hours. Depending on what happened, we may:
- remove the content;
- suspend the account, which stops it posting, commenting, liking or following and hides its content from others;
- permanently ban the account, and any accounts made to get around a ban;
- report illegal content, such as child sexual abuse material, to the authorities.
Serious violations can lead to a ban without warning. Photos are also checked automatically before anyone else sees them, and some offensive words are blocked automatically, but those checks don't replace your reports. If you think we got a decision wrong, email support@niblapp.com and we'll take another look.
